Bending my will to His

We are told in church and bible study class that we should bend our will to God’s. We are supposed to do the things God wants us to do and not the things we are drawn to do. What does this mean? This is kind of a touchy subject, at least, if you really get down to it. Let’s start with some scripture.

Romans 12: 2
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

According to this verse, we are not to be conformed to this world. To conform means to comply with the rules, traditions, standards, and laws.
The rules that conflict with the Word of God are those that need to be avoided or protested against.
The traditions of men, in which I think this verse is specifically pointing out, are to be shunned.
The standards of this world are lower than what we need to hold ourselves accountable for.
The laws of this world, should not scare us, because at some point, and I believe that time has started, the laws will be directly against Christians and we should not follow them if they oppose His Word.
We are to be transformed by the renewing of our mind. This is specifically telling us that our thoughts before this transformation are mostly against His Word. That being said, what are the thoughts that we have that go against the Word of God? The bible tells us this too.

Galatians 5: 19-21
Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Before we are transformed into what He wants us to be, men have adulterous thoughts and commit these acts. Men also are full of sexual desires, we see this more often than any other. Simply heading to a bar on any given weekend with thoughts of solely taking home a new man/woman for sexual purposes. Idolatry is a very big one, but many Christians are doing this without even realizing it. Sometimes we do things without knowing or understanding why we are doing them, but does ignorance grant us the free pass to continue in sin? Other times we know the truth, but choose in our own minds that we are doing these acts FOR God and that somehow supersedes the sin in itself. But we should know that that is not the case based on the word in the Bible.

Exodus 32: 4
And he received the gold from their hand, and he fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made a molded calf.
Then they said, “This is your god, O Israel, that brought you out of the land of Egypt!”

The golden calf should be a constant reminder to us that God does not see things the same way you and I do. When He says that He doesn’t want us to do a thing, we cannot call that thing by His name and continue to do it. One of the biggest things that we all seem to fail to do in bending our will to His is celebrate Christmas. This holiday has absolutely nothing to do with the birth of Christ, but it does revolve around the celebration of other ancient godlike beings. Christianity has simply changed names and turned it into our own version of a golden calf.
To be continued…
