Philippians Chapter 4 Breakdown

1 Therefore, my beloved and longed-for brethren, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, beloved.

Because we are not part of the citizenship of this current Earth, persist in the ways of YHWH.

2 I implore Euodia and I implore Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord.

Paul begs these two women to be in the same mindset, which is of YHWH.

3 And I urge you also, true companion, help these women who labored with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the Book of Life.

Paul asks the church in Philippi to help these women. These women had labored with Paul as well as others, whose names are written in the Book of Life.

4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!

Always celebrate in the name of YHWH.

5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.

Be kind and gentle toward all men because YHWH is near.

6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Do not worry about anything, but instead, pray about everything. When you pray be thankful for everything YHWH has already given to you. Make your prayers known to YHWH. His peace will guard your heart and mind and have faith that He will take care of all your worries.

8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.

Meditate only on the things that are true, noble, just, pure, lovely, and of good report. Paul is saying focus on the positive things and let go of the negative things.

9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.

Do as Paul does. He studies the Tanakh, which is the Torah, Prophets, and Writings. He kept and followed every commandment that applied to him. If you do these things, YHWH will be with you.

10 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at last your care for me has flourished again; though you surely did care, but you lacked opportunity.

Paul celebrates in YHWH because the Philippians care for Paul has grown again. They did not have the opportunity to show they cared.

11 Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

Paul did not need them to care for him, because he is satisfied in any situation he is in. He can handle being humiliated. He also knows how to be successful. He has been on both sides, both hungry and full.

13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

It is these experiences that have shown Paul he can do all things through Christ because He strengthens him.

14 Nevertheless you have done well that you shared in my distress.

The Philippians have shared in suffering with Paul.

15 Now you Philippians know also that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church shared with me concerning giving and receiving but you only.

The Philippians were the first church to share in giving and receiving with Paul.

16 For even in Thessalonica you sent aid once and again for my necessities.

They even sent help for Paul when he was in Thessalonica.

17 Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that abounds to your account.

Paul says he isn’t worried about getting the aid, but he desires the fruit that is added to the Philippians.

18 Indeed I have all and abound. I am full, having received from Epaphroditus the things sent from you, a sweet-smelling aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well pleasing to God.

He has everything he needs, he attained it from Epaphroditus, everything sent from Philippi. Including the sacrifice they sent.

19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

YHWH will give them everything they need.

20 Now to our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.

Glory to YHWH.

21 Greet every saint in Christ Jesus. The brethren who are with me greet you.

Be sure to welcome and receive every saint in Yeshua.

22 All the saints greet you, but especially those who are of Caesar’s household.

The saints send their greetings.

23 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

May the grace of YHWH be with you.
